After having served as head of pharmacological research laboratories of a phyto-pharmaceutical manufacturer (Dr. Willmar Schwabe GmbH & Co. KG, Karlsruhe, Germany) in 2005, Dr. Chatterjee has been collaborating with several academic and industrial research groups in India, and elsewhere, or mentoring and supervising graduate and post graduate students undergoing training in medicinal phytochemistry and studying Ayurvedic medicine in Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. Being trained as a medicinal chemist, his major research interests since 1972 has been to identify, standardize, and validate bioassays and biomarkers potentially useful for biomedical translation research based on more holistic biomedical principles. Ultimate goal of his research efforts is to translate available preclinical and clinical information on traditionally known medicinal and food plant in terms of modern life sciences, or for obtaining novel therapeutic leads from them.
